Credential Direct scores big in the Globe and Mail's Online Brokers Survey

The Globe and Mail ranks Credential Direct as one of Canada's top 3 in their 6th Annual Online Brokers Survey, confirming Credential Direct as a 1st quartile performer. This marks a dramatic increase from the previous two years, where the Globe ranked the service 10th overall.

Rob Carrick, the survey's author, calls Credential Direct "much improved" due to a "makeover in the past year" and says "this in-house broker at many of Canada's credit unions is worth a look no matter with whom you bank."

Not only did Credential Direct score well on an overall basis, the service was also number one in the cost category - exceeding all of its competitors, most by a large margin - thus strengthening its position as an excellent value proposition for credit unions and their members.

This isn't the first time Credential Direct has received such impressive marks. Just last summer, the Watchfire GomezPro Q2 2004 Online Broker Scorecard ranked Credential Direct #1 in Overall Cost, #2 for Active Traders, and #3 Best Broker Overall. The Globe and Mail results provide corroboration that the site can take its rightful place as one of the best direct investing services in the Canadian marketplace.

"We have continued to work very hard to make Credential Direct a unique and attractive alternative for Canadian investors," says Lothar Fabian, Vice President, Credential Direct. "We focus on providing value, function, and service, and are pleased that the Globe and Mail survey results have reflected our efforts."

The Globe and Mail survey is done with mainstream investors in mind. Carrick noted that "Credential Direct has added a top-flight financial planning tool" as an aide for "middle-of-the-road (investors) who invest more to achieve life goals than to make a quick buck."

Twelve brokers were included in this year's survey, which were evaluated according to five criteria: cost, the online experience, tools, trading, and electronic services. In yet another highlight, Credential Direct doubled its score in the trading category, to 18 out of 25. This reflects the wide variety of new trading services, information, and research sources that were added to the site and offered free to all investors.
