April 4, 2011 – Vancouver, BC – Clients of Credential Financial's online brokerage, Credential Direct, now have access to one of the most comprehensive Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) research offerings in Canada.

The new ETF research is provided by Morningstar Research Inc., a Canadian subsidiary of Chicago-based Morningstar Inc., and fills a void in the market, arming investors and advisors with the information they need to make informed investment decisions.

"Credential Direct is among the first in Canada to offer this kind of in-depth ETF research to online brokerage clients," said Credential's President and CEO, Doce Tomic. "The new research provides clients with unbiased information from one of the world's leading providers of investment research."

The Morningstar ETF reports include a fundamental review to help investors tackle their investment decisions, along with information about fees, portfolio composition, and the advantages and disadvantages of a particular ETF. The research also includes an ETF Analyst's Favourite list of top-rated ETFs by investment sector. John Gabriel, a Morningstar Research strategist responsible for Canadian ETF research, authors the analyst reports.
Last month, Investment Advisors of Credential's full-service brokerage, Credential Securities, also gained access to Morningstar's ETF Research.

"We are thrilled that Credential Direct is the first and only online brokerage in Canada offering ETF-specific research reports by an independent third party," said Tomic. "Likewise, our Credential Securities advisors have a huge appetite for more research on ETFs. The Morningstar research meets that demand and we believe both online clients and full-service advisors will find the new research invaluable."

Financial advisors are increasingly adopting ETFs for use in client portfolios, but also have greater responsibility selecting and monitoring ETFs compared to traditional mutual funds, where a fund manager makes day-to-day decisions on investors' behalf. Morningstar ETF research gives advisors a valuable resource to leverage the skills of leading third-party experts to enhance the investment strategy that best meets their clients' needs.

Morningstar Research's ETF coverage will include 100 U.S. and 50 Canadian ETFs, along with coverage of new ETF launches and timely information about significant changes. This research broadens Credential's extensive suite of research reports on Canadian and U.S. equities and Canadian mutual funds.

ETFs allow investors to set up diversified portfolios at very low cost to match the returns of specific sectors or an overall market. In the last few years, there has been a proliferation of new ETFs in Canada and the U.S. They have become increasingly popular with investors who prefer solutions that give them better risk control, more diversification, more transparency and low MERs.
